Reflections from Sundays lesson - The Millennium

Sister Lynn McCormack taught us about the Millennium, during this 1000 years there will be peace, love and joy. Satan will be bound because of the righteousness of those on the earth; they will not allow him  power to tempt them.
 Life will be similar to what it is today, except that everything will be done in righteousness.  People will eat and drink and will wear clothing; they will continue to plant and harvest crops and build houses.  All good people will continue to live on the earth, not just members of the church and they will continue to have children. Technology will be available and used for good.  Agency will continue through the Millennium; all will continue to be free to choose.  There will be no death as we know it; people will be changed from their mortal condition to an immortals condition when they have lived to an old age.
Christ will come to the earth to reign.  He will be the head of the government.  John Taylor taught: “The Lord will be king over all the earth, and all mankind literally under his sovereignty, and every nation under the heavens will have to acknowledge his authority, and bow to his scepter.  Those who serve him in righteousness will have communications with God, and with Jesus; will have the ministering of angels, and will know the past, the present, and the future, and other people, who may not yield full obedience to his laws, nor be fully instructed in his covenants, will, nevertheless, have to yield full obedience to this government.  For it will be the reign of God upon the earth, and he will enforce his laws, and command that obedience from the nations of the world which is legitimately his right.
 There will be two great works for members of the Church during this time, missionary work and temple work.  Immortals beings will frequently visit the earth and will help with the government and other work.  The knowledge and experience gained in our earth lives will be of benefit during the millennium, therefore we should be anxiously engaged in this work now.
All things will be revealed, “things most precious”, see D&C 101: 32-24.
This will truly be a glorious time!
Thank you Sister McCormack, we’ve enjoyed the lessons you’ve taught us!

thank you again to everyone who helped with the night and those that shared their talents that night as well!

And to the Bishopric for being good sports yet again!

Merry Christmas!!!

Reflections from Sunday Lesson - The Second Coming of Jesus Christ

Sunday's lesson was from chapter 44 - The Second Coming of Jesus Christ and was given by Sis. Crouch.

Her lesson consisted of 3 parts:

1. How will we know when the Saviors coming is near?
When Jesus Christ was born, very few people knew that the Savior of the world had come. When He comes again, there will be no doubt who He is. No one knows the exact time that the Savior will come again. “Of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only” (Matthew 24:36; see also D&C 49:7).

In D&C it tells us that we are supposed to know the signs and be looking for them. Do you know what the signs are? (refer to chapter 43 and Sis. Kirksey's lesson)

2. What will Jesus do when he come again?
1. He will cleanse the earth.
2. He will judge his people.
3. he will usher in the Millennium.
4. He will complete the First Resurrection.
5. He will take his rightful place as King of heaven and earth.

The manual goes into detail listing supporting scriptures as well on each of these topics.

3. How can we be ready when the Savior comes?
The best way we can prepare for the Savior’s coming is to accept the teachings of the gospel and make them part of our lives. We should live each day the best we can, just as Jesus taught when He was on the earth. We can look to the prophet for guidance and follow his counsel. We can live worthy to have the Holy Ghost guide us. Then we will look forward to the Savior’s coming with happiness and not with fear. The Lord said: “Fear not, little flock, the kingdom is yours until I come. Behold, I come quickly. Even so. Amen” (D&C 35:27).

Sis Crouch ended her lesson with this poem:
 'Twas the Night Before Jesus Came

'Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house
Not a creature was praying, not one in the house.
Their scriptures were lain on the shelf without care
In hopes that Jesus would not come there.

The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
And mom in her rocker and baby on her lap
Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.

When out of the East there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash!

When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray
I knew in a moment this must be THE DAY!!

The light of His face made me cover my head.
It was Jesus! Returning just like He had said.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.
In the Book of Life which He had in His hand,
Was written the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name;
When He said, "It's not here," my head hung in shame.

The people whose names had been written with love
He gathered to take to His Father above.
With those who were ready He rose without a sound
While all the rest were left standing around.

I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
I had waited to long and thus sealed my fate.
I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight;
Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.

In the words of this poem the meaning is clear;
The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
There's only one life and when comes the last call
We'll find that the scriptures was true after all!!

Not forgotten...

It's been wonderful to see the tremendous out pouring of service that has gone on these last couple of days. So many people without hesitation just got to work. Heavenly Fathers answers our prayers in so many different ways and sometimes through other people. I know so many of our ward members were answers to people's prayers this week. I hope you have seen the blessings that have occurred. Heavenly Father knows each of us and has been very mindful of our needs, fears and worries these last couple of days.
